Artist, Painter, Potter, native Texan and lifetime artist, Betty Shamel was born in Dallas, grew up in the Panhandle and Rio Grande Valley. She has lived and painted in California, Tennessee, Austria and Mexico. She earned a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, and the MFA from the University of Guanajuato at San Miguel de Allende. Mrs. Shamel now lives and works in Rockport, Texas as painter, potter and teacher. The artist-teacher has taught for over 30 years. Her students' works have appeared in a national
magazines, the first and third National Art Educators' Electronic Galleries of the Texas Art Educators Association, winning awards for student art. Betty was the 2011 Rockport Art Festival Poster Artist.

Betty Shamel has exhibited her work frequently in juried and invitational shows.
